Dental Implants

Dental implant technology makes it possible to replace a lost tooth with one that looks natural and lasts a lifetime. The process involves several steps:

  • Consultation: A thorough exam including X-rays and CT scans to determine suitability and discuss anesthesia and sedation options.
  • Jaw Preparation: CT-guided pilot hole placement in the missing-tooth space for precise implant positioning.
  • Installing the Implant: A titanium implant is placed and covered with tissue to allow osseointegration. Later, a support screw and crown are attached.
  • Recovery and Aftercare: Expect some swelling and bleeding. Pain relief, soft foods, and no smoking are recommended. Follow-up visits monitor healing over approximately six months before the final crown is fitted.

Cosmetic Gum Grafting

Cosmetic gum grafting restores a youthful smile and protects teeth from further recession. Gums may recede with age or periodontal disease, causing sensitivity and an uneven appearance.

The procedure uses tissue from the palate or a donor, securing it with adhesive or stitches. Recovery typically takes about a week, and antiseptic mouthwash is used to aid healing.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening exposes more of the tooth's structure for prosthetic restoration. It is needed for broken teeth, decay below the gum line, or to correct a "gummy smile."

Preparation includes consultation, X-rays, cleaning, and temporary crown placement. The procedure involves local anesthesia, lifting gums, removing tissue and bone as needed, washing, stitching, and aftercare with pain relievers and a soft diet.

Dental Bone Grafting

When periodontitis progresses to alveolar bone loss, bone grafting may be required. The procedure involves opening the gum, cleaning the disease, and adding graft material from the patient, a donor, or synthetic sources.

After care involves cleaning unaffected teeth, using bacteria-killing rinse, and waiting several months for the graft to integrate before it can support new teeth or implants.

Guided Tissue Regeneration

This procedure aims at covering the exposed root surface and preventing further bone and tissue loss. It addresses the progression from poor hygiene to gingivitis, plaque buildup, infection, and gingival recession.

The procedure uses scaling, root conditioning agents, local antibiotics, powdered bone, and a barrier membrane to rebuild lost tissues and restore oral function.

Pocket Reduction

Periodontal disease can create gum pockets that deepen over time. Pocket reduction folds gum tissue back to remove bacteria, tartar, and plaque, then smooths bone contours for reattachment.

Advantages include stopping disease progression and making teeth easier to maintain with regular hygiene.

Scaling and Root Planing

This deep cleaning procedure removes calculus and tartar buildup that damages supporting structures. Using hand scalers and ultrasonic tools with local anesthesia, the periodontist cleans pockets where gums have pulled away from teeth.

It is most effective for mild gum disease and gingivitis. Good brushing, flossing, and regular dentist visits may prevent the need for this procedure.
